So how did this happen?
Carolyn was a rabbit breeder - at one time she had over 400 bunnies, but after serious financial trouble, she realized she couldn't afford the upkeep of the animals and in mid 2010 she began selling off the rabbits she had been raising. By 2011 the situation was dire, and Carolyn was in debt from the animals and needed to see the end to her rabbit problem. Carolyn tried everything - advertising on craig's list, google, locally in newspapers - but the rabbits weren't selling. In this economy, it's hard to find homes for pets at all.

In desperation, Carolyn found out that a zoo would purchase the rabbits as feed for other animals - and she found information about how to euthanize the rabbits in bulk - via a homemade gas chamber. Per Carolyn - it was a last resort. She wanted to find the animals another way - but the zoo offered $8 per bunny to be used as feed, and she needed the money badly.

How did rescue get involved?
A rescue group from the North East United States was doing a transport through Georgia of 8 other rescue bunnies (unrelated) when one of their supporters posted the news to their facebook page - from there it was a frenzy of phone calls and emails. For 8 1/2 hours, while the other rescue transport ensued - one Android phone was blowing up, making arrangements. And people responded. The bunny community is a lot bigger than you'd think, and through these "bunny people" - we are finding safe haven for all 79 rabbits before this weekend!

Carolyn stressed that while she wasn't looking to make a profit - just to get the rabbits out of her life, and put this chapter behind her - she is in debt and was really counting on the $8 per bunny she was offered. So now the job turned to rabbit rescue to post "BAIL" for the 79 bunnies. Look at it as another economical "bail out". We're bailing out the bunnies, and one desperate owner - who promises her days of bunny breeding are behind her!

Rabbits in need of homes/rescue !!

As many of you know, five years ago my husband and I built a 1300 sq. ft. rabbitat to care for a large group of rabbits who had been dumped in California.

Unfortunately, the other night in the ice storm, the roof collapsed. We were incredibly lucky that only one rabbit waskilled in the disaster (I'd just taken out four fresh bales of hay and they stopped the beams from hitting the ground -- the one rabbit who was killed was on a bale of hay). Everyone is safely inside the house now, but I don't have a long term solution for keeping them here (and the short term one is about to kill me). I need to find rescues or homes for some of these guys, desperately.

The ideal situation would be to find a new rabbitat-type-situation for them to go to, they are used to having room to run, and being able to live a very rabbity life(they are, of course, spayed/neutered). But most if not all could be happy living inside with human friends, too. Some are extremely friendly.

If rescues could step up and take a group, I'd be eternally grateful (and the bunnies would too). But I'm also looking for good adoptive homes. Even temporary fosters would help me out. Please spread the word. Rabbits make great companions and are not hard to care for -- they can even be litter box trained!
Most everyone's life would be improved by a rabbit.

Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue (CA) needs your help

Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue has been notified by the leadership of the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society of their intention to reclaim use of the space currently occupied by the shelter rabbits to create a new animal intake area. WE MUST VACATE OUR AREA AT THE SHELTER AND HAVE ALL THE RABBITS RELOCATED BY MAY 31, 2011. After May 31, the shelter will focus exclusively on housing and adopting out dogs and cats. While they will continue to accept rabbits surrendered to the shelter or picked up as strays, they will no longer house rabbits on their property. We have verbal confirmation that rabbits will have a maximum three-day holding period before being euthanized.

Our top priority is to find safe placements for the rabbits currently at the shelter, as well as any additional rabbits taken in before May 31. After that date, it will be our direct goal to help get every rabbit that comes in to this shelter OUT of the shelter before the holding period expires. We are working to develop a network of rescues and additional foster homes to help us ensure the safety and well-being of all rabbits taken into this shelter both now and in the future.

We can make this happen, but we need your help, and TIME IS RUNNING OUT! We are seeking foster and forever homes; transporters willing to drive or fly rabbits to other rescues, sanctuaries, or more distant forever-homes; and volunteers to help expand our outreach and education efforts.

Our time is running out in ....please help! (North California area)

My name is Shannon and my four surviving babies are Willie, Eddie, Charlie and Henri. I started out with 7 babies and 3 didn’t survive. Being at the shelter is a bit rough for us. My babies were born at the shelter and are only about 9 weeks old. They are helicopter eared boys who are extremely playful and need room to romp. Unfortunately, we are in a cage right now and the shelter is a bit stressful for us, hence why we all came down with URI and now there is a bit of discharge and sneezing coming out of all of us. We are currently on Baytril.

Because our shelter is overloaded, we are slated to be euthanized unless someone, or a rescue can come forward and sweep us away and find us a permanent home. Before he arrived at Kind Heart, he had been repeatedly attacked by another rabbit. My vet discovered over 100 bite marks, two open wounds on his rump, his tail had been bitten off, and inside his nostril had been bitten. It took over 25 staples to close up the wounds on his rump.

Through all this...he is just afraid, but very sweet. While he is not "adoptable" yet, we are looking for donations to help with his vet bill and eventual neuter.

Hello there.
My name is Cranberry and I am a small and white mixed spayed rabbit. As you can probably already tell from my picture, I’m a little bit of Florida white and a little bit of a lion head. The volunteers say that I’m a curious gal, energetic and very eager to explore. I arrived at the shelter as a stray in November of 2009 and I’ve been having a bit of a rough time adjusting to shelter life. I’m am right now on the euthanasia list because the shelter has no more cage space AND because I’m quite sassy. Basically, I’m a bit moody and will sometimes be a sweet angel to the volunteers and sometimes throw everyone that comes my way a little bit of attitude.

The volunteers who have worked with me say that when I’m in a good mood, I enjoy being petted when I know I’m safe and secure in someone’s lap. I have spunk and I want to live. Will someone please find it in their heart to rescue me so that I will not be

Look at this BEAUTIFUL chocolate-Siamese boy Roan! I thought he'd be adopted on his looks alone. I don't think he qualifies as a true-dwarf, but he is very small. He is the last of SIX rabbits dumped on December 6. His last friend was adopted 3 weeks ago (now TWO MONTHS AGO) ; he is lonely and becoming frightened and shy....which makes him less visible and less & less likely to be adopted. He doesn't deserve this. Please choose Roan as a loving companion!

Itty-teeny Mickey is a genuine dwarf with the BLUEST eyes you've ever seen. He, too, is the last of a "discard" of 4 bunnies on January 5. He's very small, very sweet, an easy, good cuddle! His cage-companion was just adopted two days ago (now SIX WEEKS AGO) , leaving little Mickey alone and lonely. Help me find this little doll-boy his own special home, PLEASE!

Lightning needs loving home - Arizona

A few weeks ago a couple bunnies (Lou & Lighting) were rescued and they were to be put down due to illness. Lou had an eye infection which was cured and Lou was adopted.

Lightning McQueen had the snuffles and he is almost over it and doing great.

I promised Lightning I would find him a good home and plan on following through. He is a good boy, kind, loving, likes to be held, does not chew on stuff, likes other bunnies, and I'm potty training him. Lightning is staying in Presscot

Charlie (nr. A1086333) is one of the friendliest, sweetest bunnies you can imagine. He is one of the few rabbits checked in as a "stray" who actually is. He came in skinny and matted. Still, we can tell he was a pet. He LOVES giving kisses, comes to the door of the cage and, when you pet him, wants to climb in your arms so much it's hard to get him back in the cage.

Yet even though he came in Jan. 13, 2010 , one of the most recent, he was immediately RED LISTED and he is in danger of euthanisation at any time.

Please help to get this love of a boy into a GOOD home.

Bunny Rescue in TN needs your help

Bunny Rescue in the Nashville, TN area rescued 40 rabbits (in total) from a maggot filled hutch in Dickson. Litters of babies had their arms, legs and ears chewed off because the adult males were never removed.

We've spayed all the females and have rehabbed all back to good health over the past 2 months and now need to place the first 20 since we already had 40 buns in our bun room at the time of the rescue. (we can barely walk in there, and are desperate now)

Underneath just 2 bunnies (the right one is missing it ears as you can clearly see)

We desperately still need temporary foster moms and dads for 17 rabbits.

Hangorenparadijs (Overijssel, NL) seeks homes

A local small rabbit shelter called Hangorenparadijs in the Netherlands (to be precisely in Steenwijkerwold - in the province Overijssel) is seeking good homes for their adoptable rabbits. As they recently took in a few rabbits which later turned out to be all pregnant (people forgot to tell the rescue that the boys/girls were not separated) this resulted in a total litter of 11 youngsters (all French lops)

As this is a very small rescue they are now overfull and do need to get some rabbits rehomed to make room for the 11 youngsters. Underneath just 3 randomly chosen pictures of the available rabbits. Do consider adopting a rabbit from this shelter, so they can make room for other rabbits.

De kleinschalige konijnenopvang het Hangorenparadijs in Steenwijkerhold (NL, provincie Overijssel) is naarstig op zoek naar nieuwe baasjes voor een aantal van hun opvangkonijnen. Onlangs werden zij verrast door een geboortegolf van maar liefst 11 konijntjes, omdat opgevangen konijnen onverwachts zwanger bleken te zijn (men had "even vergeten" er bij te vermelden dat de dames/heren bij elkaar hadden gezeten). Om deze kleine donders ruimte te bieden, is men dringend op zoek naar nieuwe baasjes voor de konijnen die thans wel herplaatsbaar zijn.

Hieronder een drietal willekeurige gekozen foto's van beschikbare konijnen.
En eerlijk is eerlijk; het zijn prachtige konijnen waar je best wat voor om mag rijden!

If you happen to know shelters in those counties which have rabbits up for adoption and are not yet stated here, then please do not hesitate to send us an e-mail with the information.

We hope to add the remaining counties as soon as possible, but as it is all voluntary work done in our spare time, it can take a few more weeks before we have accomplished that.

Flemish Giant seeks home

I am a parrot rescue that has inadvertently gotten a few bunnies in. We have a Flemish Giant that has been displaced due to the owner being removed from her home. I am going to take her in temporarily until we can find a home, but we need to get this 3 year old spayed.

We do not have the money to do so. The owner is going to give us a little to go toward the surgery, but I doubt she can give much. If anyone can help us out, you can make a gift in our name to the vet directly, Dr. Essig at 304-375-2676 Williamstown Animal Hospital.

Mum and her daugther seek home (UK)

This mum and her daugther are seeking a good and loving home.

Mum is an Agouti - here on the right. Her daugther is now 3/4 months old and as you can see her ears were overgroomed by mum at birth. Mum is very protective of her daughter and therefore they need to be rehomed together.

They are in a shelter already for 6 months and often overlooked.

Magic needs Rescue

We got a call from a volunteer today who was at the shelter and was told that due to space and that this bunny will be euthanized. We learned that the shelter she is at has an abundance of New Zealand's. Her death was to occur Friday at noon but a temporary stay was granted as we were working on her rescue.

We managed to get Magic into a temporary fosterhome but she still needs urgent rescue, medical care and ofcourse a permanent home.

Magic is a big, gorgeous New Zealand rabbit. She's a bit on the shy side but likes volunteers, being held and attention from people.

Can you please help this sweet girl find a permanent home? We need to get her out of harms way. This rabbit is a large bunny and playful - she needs lots of space, and lots of fun toys to play with. What a dramatic face and her expression says it all, no wonder they call her magic!

New Look and Feel RabbitPal.com

Already for a couple of years RabbitPal is present on the internet to help shelters rehome their adoptable rabbits by listing them for free on the website.
However, nowadays there are many many other websites where shelters can list their rabbits. From own experience we can tell that it is a very time consuming task to have all these website updated on a regular basis.

And thus we understand that shelters use those services which have a broader community and tend to generate the most traffic for their cause.

It is therefore that we had to reconsider the effectiveness of RabbitPal and have come to the conclusion that we have to go into another direction. RabbitPal will remain dedicated to rehoming rabbits all over the world and will list as many links as possible which are related to rabbit shelters. We want to become the most extensive linksdatabase with regard to rabbit-related links. As we do this in our spare time it will take some time. So be patient.

Besides that RabbitPal would like to be the place to post rabbit pleas: rabbits who are in desperate need of help (like rabbits in high-kill shelters), rabbits who need immediate rescue, or maybe just transportation is needed or maybe a place to stay for a couple of days before there is a spot available in a rabbit shelters. RabbitPal wants to act as a kind of intermediar between shelters and people who could help out.
