Welcome!

Welcome to our website featuring our 5 rabbits: Loki, Cinder, Ferris, Leo, and Wesley.

Our Rabbits are "house rabbits" they are litter box trained and they are often out galloping about our house. They do spend part of the day in a pen, but they are a part of our lives indoors (much like a cat or a dog). If you are interested in finding out more about indoor rabbits, please see the House Rabbit Society website, and and check out the book House Rabbit Handbook.

Marisa has always loved bunnies. My favorite stuffed toy growing up was a little brown bunny. My parents later gave me a real rabbit, the beautiful white SweetPea. A few years later, we had a little black & white Dutch rabbit, Silky, who lived to be 12 years old! In college, I owned a beautiful little grey bunny named Ash who died too young (3 years old) in 1998. Five years later, my husband Casey and I decided we would like to welcome a new bunny into our home and we discovered the lovely Loki and Cinder in March 2003. Casey was somewhat skeptical about rabbits as pets, but it only took one look at Loki for him to be converted.

LokiLoki

Nicknames: Monster, Lokster, Loki-Monster, Loki-Bunny
Loki is a male (neutered) English Spot. English Spots are a full arch type rabbit, which means that their body type looks more like a hare or a wild rabbit. Casey picked Loki out from a 4H litter at a local fair, and you could just see the two bond instantly. Traditionally English Spot rabbits have colored ears, coloration around their eyes, a colored nose and facial area (called a "butterfly"), a "herringbone" design down their back, and spots on both sides. Loki obviously doesn't look like that, but he's a purebred Spot. How can that be? What isn't commonly known is that English Spots also appear in two other varieties: the "self" (also known as a "sport") which means the rabbit is all one color; Loki is an example of this type. Loki's "self" color is black, but sports/selfs can also be any English Spot color (blue, chocolate, gold, gray, lilac, and tort) based on the parent rabbit colors. My husband is fond of saying that Loki -is- the spot. Another type of English Spot is the "Charlie"; these rabbits are white with dark ears and a dark nose/mouth area (like a Charlie Chaplain moustache), and sometimes the herringbone on the back (but no spots at all). You can see pictures of all 3 types of rabbits (as babies) in this image (from left to right: spot, charlie, sport.) We believe Loki was the runt of the litter as he was smaller than his sisters (both Charlies). Loki is now fully grown, and he's a (small) 5 lbs. He's extremely active and a real character. He climbs all over the furniture, has been known to jump over a 36-inch-high child safety gate, likes to dig at the carpet, and his favorite toys are a children's key ring and a cardboard toilet tube. He also runs at amazing speeds around the house, and he loves Cinder more than anything else except for Casey.

Cinder

Cinder

Nicknames: Princess, Cinnabun, Cin-chan
Cinder is a female (spayed) Dutch. Most people have seen Dutch rabbits before, they are commonly said to have "tuxedos" and are very popular as pets in America and the rest of the world. Cinder is considered a "blue" Dutch, but her coloring is actually more of a slate grey. I had one (grumpy) Dutch rabbit as a child (Silky) and I wasn't planning on getting another. Then I saw Cinder and it was all over! Cinder was one of a litter of about 12 rabbits, 4 of them blue and 8 of them black. We also met Cinder's parents who were a blue doe and a black buck. Cinder doesn't have showable lines and hence she was a "pet" quality rabbit. We don't care at all about Cinder's lines... she's beautiful and special and we love her to excess. She's extremely friendly and very demanding. She keeps all of the other rabbits in line, except for Loki who she lets THINK he is the top bunny (she's really the boss). She often demands pets and grooming, and she's very outgoing (she's also a furniture climber). She is also our only girl bun and she's quite pleased that we have 3 boys to pay attention to her, but she loves Loki the best.

FerrisFerris

Nicknames: Feral, Snow Bunny
Ferris is a male (neutered) mixed bunny, but we think he's primarily a Siamese Netherland Dwarf. After adopting Cinder & Loki, I spent a lot of time surfing the net and discovered how many rabbits lived (and died) in shelters across the USA. We wanted to do something for the rabbits, and decided that we would adopt a rabbit from the House Rabbit Society shelter. We found a beautiful grey rabbit, Ferris, at the San Francisco/Marin House Rabbit Society who reminded me of my rabbit Ash (who died before we knew as much as we do today about saving sick rabbits). Ferris was abandoned in the night drop of a local shelter and he spent a long time there, somehow missing "D day" (thank goodness). They believe he's no more than two years old (if that; he's more likely a little more than a year old according to the vet). He was rescued by the House Rabbit society early last year and he was almost adopted a couple of times, but it unfortunately (for them, fortunately for us) did not work out either time. Ferris was introduced to Cinder and Loki on August 22, 2003, and amazingly it went EXTREMELY well (this is very rare). Both Cinder and even Loki took right to Ferris. We have spent the last month bonding the rabbits, and as of September 17, 2003, Ferris moved into the cage with Cinder and Loki. It has been an amazing success. Ferris is still a little shy, but he's really perked up as he now gets (and gives) loves and cuddles from both Cinder and Loki as well as from us. He's found a permanent home with us and we will love him for all of his days. An odd note is that Ferris' ears, tail, and paws (even his facial area) are currently turning a silvery grey. We are assuming this is because he's molting and it's wintertime. So, we have been calling him "snow bunny" because he's turning white much like Arctic Hares do in the wintertime.

LeoLeo

Nicknames: LB (little bunny), BeBop (Baby Lop)
Leo is a male (neutered) Holland Lop. We believe his coloring is "Broken Tort". My parents have a house in Morro Bay, California, so we drove down to visit them. We brought Ferris, Loki, and Cinder with us in order to continue to bond them. We ran out of hay on Saturday and looked in the phone book for a feed store. We found one in San Luis Obispo, we drove over there, and after we purchased a bag of Timothy Hay we noticed that there was a RABBIT there in this dark horrible little cage, we couldn't even see it. We have never seen pets at a feed store (ours at home is strictly pet supplies and bales of hay). We asked what the deal was, and the guy says "oh, that one is not for sale, it's for our customer who has a boa." I'm not against snakes, but I am not for feeding cute little critters in a contained situation to them either. I ran out of there, burst into tears, and suddenly my husband comes walking out with this box. He made the guy give him the rabbit, sight unseen. The guy told him the rabbit was vicious, female, and not in good health. It turns out the rabbit is male, VERY sweet, and in excellent health, and he's ADORABLE. He weighs in at all of 2.75 lbs., and he's full-grown and we think he's about 6 months old. We decided that we needed to get someone to adopt him, but it really was too late after we saw him. He stole our hearts. He lives in Cinder & Loki's old cage (now abandoned since they live in a 3-level NIC Condo with Ferris) and he's a joy. He's completely different from the other rabbits, he acts more like a puppy than a rabbit.

LeoWesley, Earl Grey

Nicknames: Mini-Bunny, Mouse
Wesley is a male (neutered) Silver Marten. His coloring is considered "Blue". We tried bonding Leo to the other 3 rabbits it was world war, so we decided we should take Leo out for a few dates because we didn't want him to be lonely. We took him to the San Francisco/Marin House Rabbit Society (the HRS where we found Ferris) and introduced him to several females. None of the female dates really went the way we wanted, but then we introduced this little guy named Earl Grey to Leo. We decided to name him Wesley (Wesley, Earl Grey ^_^.... we kept his original name too) is an adorable sweet little guy who LOVES getting pets (he's a glutton for cuddles) and will sit still on your lap for an hour just to soak up love. Leo & Wesley worked at first, but we think that Wesley is now more interested in being a "single" bun... he loves people a lot more than other rabbits. We are sad that he doesn't seem to want Leo as a partner, but we love Wesley very much and we are content to keep him as a single bun.
